How pre-school education will prepare your child for school
Starting school is often a huge transition for young children and understandably an anxious time for many parents, too. Pre-school education can help to ease that transition, providing your child with an excellent introduction to learning while nurturing their confidence in a safe, happy environment.
We know that every child is unique, and that a positive learning experience in early childhood will help them to fulfill their true potential. In this blog post, we’ll share how the British Council’s tried-and-tested teaching methods will lay the foundations for future success.
The British Council Pre-school
The British Council Pre-school aims to provide your child with the best of Singapore-UK education, placing equal emphasis on English and Mandarin. We believe in developing the whole child, socially and academically, so that they will naturally begin to acquire the core 21st century competencies needed to thrive in our globalised world.
Our broad curriculum reflects the stipulations set by both the Singapore Kindergarten Curriculum Framework (KCF) and the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Here are some of the areas we cover to prepare nursery and kindergarten children for the path ahead.
Language and literacy
Our pre-school curriculum includes a strong focus on language and literacy. We have a long history of excellence in English tuition and have seen children flourish by learning in a language-rich environment. Our passionate teachers will introduce the multi-sensory Jolly phonics programme in stages, with hands-on activities and games, so your child can develop their communication skills by playing and exploring.

Music and motor skills
Each pre-school day includes time for children to be active and interactive. Through indoor movement and purposeful group play, we provide carefully planned opportunities for children to develop their gross motor skills, coordination and control. It’s also a fantastic way to expose children to different kinds of music, sound and dance – key elements for creative development.
Numeracy
Our aim is for our children to cultivate self-assurance and a love for learning, giving them a solid academic grounding for their school years. We will explore mathematical concepts such as patterning, shapes, size, distance, time and money through stimulating activities, as well as developing foundation skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.
Discovery of the world
We will nurture your child’s natural curiosity by encouraging them to be inquisitive. Using everyday objects and themes, our highly qualified teachers will prompt children to investigate how things work, setting them off on their lifelong learning journey. By exploring and questioning the world around them, children begin to ready themselves for lessons in science, history and geography.
