Since 2006, Gek Khim has been contributing to the workforce development in Singapore, mainly under the auspices of SkillsFuture Singapore Agency (SSG) and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (SWDA).
Gek Khim is currently Director of the SSG. As the head of Industry Development Division 1, she works closely with various industry stakeholder groups to curate industry-relevant interventions for individuals and enterprises to support workforce upskilling and enterprise transformation. Prior to her current post, she oversaw the development and review of the Singapore Skills Framework, and the national Continuing Education and Training (CET) system – the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) system, to ensure their relevance and alignment with the CET Masterplan, industry transformation requirements, talent demands and skills needs. Gek Khim championed and drove the development of the Skills Frameworks (SFws) for 34 sectors which will benefit about two-thirds of the Singapore workforce. In the course of development work, she led a team of Jobs-Skills Analysts in SSG to curate useful jobs-skills insights leveraging big data, research and intel, and fuse this intelligence with the Singapore Skills Framework.
During her stint in SWDA, Gek Khim was also involved in the establishment of the Singapore WSQ system, and responsible for upholding its high quality and sustainability. Her key contributions included driving the review of the Quality Assurance (QA) Framework to enhance its overall quality of WSQ provision and operational efficiency of QA.
Gek Khim had also helped her organisation and team win various industry and quality awards for work excellence, including the awards awarded by the Singapore OpenGov Asia Recognition of Excellence, Singapore Land Transport Authority as well as Minister’s Award for Excellence by Ministry of Manpower.
